• FAQs

I’ve never talked to a therapist. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

Not at all. People who ask for help have the wisdom to know when they need it and the courage to reach out. We all need help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths so you can draw from them to overcome the problems you’re facing.

What’s the difference between talking to you and talking to my best friend or family member?

A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way. As a therapist, I can teach you new skills and gain different perspectives. I listen to you without judgment or expectations and help you listen to yourself. Also, what you share in therapy is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others knowing your business. Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Medication can be effective but it alone cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed alongside counseling. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths in order to accomplish your personal goals.

How does therapy work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, your experience will be unique. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs.

How long does the therapy process take?

This will also depend on the person. Everyone’s circumstances are unique and the length of time therapy can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.

How can I get the most out of therapy?

I’m so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success.

My fee is $220 for 50 minute sessions. I reserve several sliding scale spots for those with financial need. Please inquire for availability.

    Insurance

Depending on your current health insurance provider or employee benefit plan, it’s possible for services to be covered in full or in part. Please contact your provider to ask about your plan coverage for psychotherapy services.

Here are a few questions to ask your insurance provider:

    • Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits?

    • Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it? Have I met it yet?

    • Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit?

    • Do I need written approval from my primary care physician in order for services to be covered?

    Payment

I accept all major credit cards. I also accept payments via Venmo, PayPal, and Zelle.
